The Basic DOs and DON’TS of an At-Home Workout

There’s a few simple do’s and don’ts when it comes to the new world of working out outside of gyms or by yourself, that many people might be glossing over.  Here at Shred Tutor, we want you to be as safe as possible while also reaching your maximum fitness potential.  Our team of experts has advised us on a few simple do’s and don’ts that were designed to keep our shredders safe and reaching peak performance.  Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, typical workout settings such as the gym or a field of sports is inaccessible for most, and with this, we here at Shred Tutor want to remind everyone to maintain their social distancing from other people of at least 6 feet apart as recommended by the CDC.  If you’re working out alone, or in an outdoor social distanced group setting, then we have a few tips and tricks to keep you safe and hitting your max potentials.  


Let’s start off with the DO’s.  Do make sure to always stretch before any form of physical activity.  You want your body and your muscles limber before you put any physical strain upon yourself.  This is especially important at times like this when our daily movements are already so limited because of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Do be sure to hydrate frequently and stay hydrated.  Exercising in mainly outdoor settings is going to be new for the majority of people nowadays, and with that said, hydration is going to be key to your exercising longevity.  You will be sweating way more and need to hydrate more as well.  Keeping your body hydrated will allow you to exercise for longer periods of time and keep your body from potentially overexerting or overheating.  Since we are entering new waters in regards to working out away from the typical gym setting, we here at Shred Tutor want to remind everyone of another huge DO and that’s proper clothing for outdoor exercising.  Do be mindful of certain factors such as the heat and the sun, and wear proper clothing to keep you cool but also protected from any harmful exposure.  Another huge DO that we want to keep in mind is to wear reflective or bright color clothing while exercising at night.  It’s for our safety as well as any other potential people on the road, safety is always the #1 priority.  Do make sure to eat a healthy meal or snack prior to all physical activity so you’re supplying your body with the essential nutrients it needs to keep on shredding.  


Now that we’ve covered a few of our basic Dos, let’s move to the Do Nots.  Shredders, do not overexert yourself, especially if you are exercising by yourself without a partner, and always remember safety first. Remember the buddy system when going for a swim or maybe at the gym so you always have a spotter with you to keep you safe.  A buddy is invaluable. 

Also when it comes to exercising away from your home, maybe a jog in the early morning or evening, a swim on the beach, etc…, it is always safer to be with someone else that you know instead of being by yourself.  A good tip here is to join a local group of like-minded people that are on quarantine and trying to stay healthy and active.  Social distance of course, but having a buddy is safer and can make exercising more fun.
